Flooding in the Slums of Kampala

Sunday 26th November  and Tuesday 6th December have been among the worst  days in Sembule slum  for most  of the families  PHU is supporting in that slum.

We had a heavy downpour due to El nino effect.

For these 2 days the rain began at around  2:00 am  to 7:30 am. The water stream which passes through Sembule slum flooded and most of the houses around were flooded with dirty water.

One of the victims of the flooding was Nakandi Gorret, mother to Angel Nambusi (supported by PHU).

Water filled her rented single room at that time of the night. She had nowhere to run to, she spent the night of 26th November standing  at the veranda with her 8 year old daughter and her baby on her back .

Some of her plastic utensils were taken by water and all their beddings were soaked.

That morning, she was planning to get a polythene or taupline sheet  to cover her mattress in case she didn't get enough sunshine to dry the beddings to get them dry to be used the following  night.

It is such a hard time they go through whenever it rains these days.
