Sharuwa Kamugero
Sharuwa Kamugero is one of the brightest children supported by Peters Heart Uganda. Her academic performance and results are exceptional despite the fact that she is among the slum children. Usually, the performance of the children enrolled from the slums tends to be poor given the fact that they join school at a very old age, having to worry where the next meal will come from and the sleepless nights on damp floors, when rainy season floods flow into their houses. However, Sharuwa has defied that trend.
Her results are not just better but excellent. Her recent report card has only distinctions for each subject and only one credit in Christian Religious Education just because she comes from an Islamic back ground. But even still she performed far better than her other counterparts who come from Christian families.
She was enrolled in for a PHU academic scholarship in January 2023. Her mother Ms Nashiba Nassanga sells boiled corn on the streets for her income, which is too low to send Sharuwa and her siblings to school. Her husband abandoned the family and left her pregnant with her baby who is now 10 months old, and he is suffering from autisim and multiple abnormalities.
Ms. Nassanga is struggling to feed the family, pay rent for shelter for her 4 children, and always in and out of hospital for her son.
She is very proud to have PHU support her child in boarding school, and provide all her school needs. This has put a smile on all their faces.
