OUR STORY

Peter’s Heart Inc. began to take root in 2007 when founder, Dr. James Anderson, built Christ-centered friendships with four Ugandan men on the Al Asad Air Base, 100 miles west of Baghdad, Iraq, while serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. Through this shared experience away from home and family, and shared passion to serve God, family, and neighbor, authentic relationships among these five men were forged. From then to now, the story continues to unfold.

We seek to see lives transformed of at-risk children, families, and communities in impoverished Ugandan slums.

our program

Currently there are 53 children and their families in our program. The first 18 children we enrolled are in our partner Christian Boarding schools and are provided with tuition and supplies, necessary medical care, and were the beginning of the community of children and families in the Peter’s Heart Inc. program. In-between the three school terms of each calendar year, several of these children stay with our host families for extended periods, when safe alternatives with their own family are not available. We offer vocational and spiritual training and support to their mothers (generally the fathers are absent), hoping that these skills make life away from the slums a more realistic possibility. These first enrollees are now in their teens and we are confident that a difference has been made. Their health and general sense of well being along with their progress in school has been a joy to see.

In July, 2022, 25 more children were identified to join PH. These are young children who are in the 2 catchment areas in the slums of Kampala and were not enrolled in school and are vulnerable for disease and malnutrition. We have partnered with a guardian or parent to be responsible and they are enrolled in a school within walking distance to the slum. The guardians and parents must show some oversight to make sure they get to school and will contact PH staff if problems arise. We are hoping this will be a path for more students to be enrolled in school since it is less expensive than boarding school, but it is still possible that the safety of these children will necessitate enrolling some in boarding school. Thank you for the generous support you have given to allow PH to grow and reach more children.
