After Graduation, Christine Begins Internship

Congratulations to Christine, Peter’s Heart’s first high school graduate and first paid intern!

Christine is one of the early students supported by Peter’s Heart, and her educational journey reflects both resilience and the impact of sustained mentorship and sponsorship. She was identified for support after missing an entire school term due to her family’s financial challenges. With encouragement from mentors and support from a sponsor, she joined the organization in 2017. Christine said, “Peter’s Heart mentors came to Kabalagala, and I was chosen because my mother struggled to get my school fees. I had to stay home for a whole term without going to school before I got this opportunity.”

Christine began her studies at Godfrey Foundation School in Bunamwaya, Uganda, before transferring to African Academy to complete her primary education. She later advanced to Seroma Christian High School for her secondary studies, where she began Senior One in 2019. Her education, like that of many students, was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. During this time, Peter’s Heart provided critical support through home schooling, virtual lessons, regular check-ins, counseling, and even food assistance for students and their families.

After schools reopened, Christine continued her studies, completing her Ordinary Level (Senior Four) in 2023. Throughout her time in the program, she also participated in Center Days during the holidays, where mentors reinforced values such as honesty and trust alongside academic learning.

She went on to pursue her Advanced Level studies at Vision for Africa High School, completing Senior Five and Six. While awaiting her final results, Christine gained work experience at a local supermarket and later returned to Peter’s Heart Uganda as a volunteer, giving back to the same community that supported her.

Academically, she demonstrated strong performance, particularly excelling in entrepreneurship. Looking ahead, Christine plans to enroll in a business program at Makerere University in August 2026. Until then, she has become the first official paid intern at Peter’s Heart, helping in the accounting department. It will be a good way for her to gain real-world work experience, earn some money, and help the program's staff and students.

Her journey highlights the transformative role of access to education, mentorship, and community support, and she remains deeply grateful to the mentors, sponsors, and supporters who made her path possible. “I would like to thank Peter’s Heart for supporting me in this educational journey. I am really blessed,” she said.
