A Journey to Hope and Healing

The main mission of Peter’s Heart is to identify the children who are most vulnerable to the realities of life in the slums and help them move to safety, show them the Love of God in Jesus Christ and provide an education for them. We also seek to keep any family ties intact and even strengthen these connections.  This brings the mentors into the lives of many broken people.  One of our mentors, Church Seruwu, is focusing on reaching out to the mothers and caretakers of our students in hopes of improving their difficult life.

-       Church describes one of the mothers:

-       This mother is 30 years old with 3 children and each with a different father. Right now, she lives with her 2 youngest children, one who is 7 years old, a beneficiary of Peter’s Heart and a baby who is 10 months old.  The baby depends on breast milk and takes ARVS (anti retro-viral drugs for HIV).

-       She has no living parents and no family support.

-       She consults witchcraft for her work as a lady of the night so that she can attain clients with good pay for her children to survive.

-       She is HIV positive and is on ARVS.

-       She lives in a small ram shackled room. When it rains, the floods come directly into her small room. In these circumstances, she runs out to the main street in the community to save her life and that of her children.

-       She lives a life of survival because she has no stable and sustainable work, a life of fear and recklessness, struggling for daily food.

Through Church Seruwu’s regular visits and mentoring, she is beginning to change and experience a better life.  Together they found a local church that has received her with open arms.  She goes every Saturday and helps clean the church. She has been ushering on Sundays which helps her feel that she belongs. She can use a friend’s phone to call Church and make sure that Church is coming for their weekly visit because it means so much to her.  We hope to see this young woman find some type of sustainable work, a room to rent out of the flood zone, have daily food, and mostly to see herself as a child of God fulfilling her desire to be a good mother to her children.
