Using sports as a tool to deliver the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ

Scripture Union Uganda, along with facilitators from SU Canada, organized a sport’s ministry training this month. They equipped our team with many skills and provided us the chance to serve in schools, churches, and communities, where they serve, to help us grow spiritually and skillfully in sport’s ministry.

Lawson W. Murray, President of Scripture Union Canada, led the training team. This training attracted people from all SU regions of Uganda and a team from South Sudan.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Understanding the big difference between sports and sport’s ministry

  • Learning to integrate various sports with Bible teachings, which deliver a life changing message to children and adults

  • Connecting people of different faiths and beliefs with sports being a common ground to relate

  • Utilizing sports as a means of introducing Jesus to children who do not know Him and encouraging those who already do

  • Learning fundamentals of organizing future sport’s ministry events (i.e. prayerfully and carefully developing an Action Plan, developing a vision, objectives, and goals, planning and inviting people to participate, organizing a planning team, and identifying and connecting sports with people in the church and community)

  • Determining the most suitable sport’s activities for the situation and community

  • Using available materials and resources to implement sport’s activities

Way forward

Using the skills that were attained during this training, our hope is to implement a one-day sport’s ministry camp over the Easter holiday with our 11 supported children and others in the community.
