Joanne's Story
Background
I am Ugandan by nationality married to Pr. Alex Mwenda who is from Kenya. We have been married for the last 10 years and together we have 4 beautiful girls. I have a passion for the Children and Marriage ministries and have served in various capacities in this regard for many years. I am a counseling Psychologist by profession with a degree from Makerere University and a certificate in Information Technology.
Joanne’s Story
I am a servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. I got saved at the age of thirteen when a friend invited me to her church, Full Gospel Church, Makerere. I have walked with Jesus since then.
After my studies at Makerere University, I started volunteering at the Scripture Union Uganda Headquarters. I am now among the long serving staff of Scripture Union and my experience is what eventually brought me to join Peters Heart in August 2019.
Today
I love working with children and young people and sharing with them a message of hope. I help out many organizations that are partnering with us in counseling both young and adults and married couples. Showing them Jesus is the best thing I could ever do. Peter's Heart gives me an opportunity to minister to many vulnerable people in slums of Uganda giving them hope to live and to start a journey with our Lord Jesus Christ.
My favorite part as I serve with Peter's Heart is when these children confide in me and open up to share heartfelt stories and struggles in tears. It's always my joy to encourage and pray with them. It is amazing to see how our PH children have grown in different aspects of their life—spiritually, behaviorally, academically, among others—compared to the time we enrolled them.
A Touching Story
One of our children is 4 years old. His mother was murdered. One day, he suddenly saw a mother in me and he started telling everyone he has a mother! Every time I am at the Peter's Heart office he will run into my arms to welcome me and tell me all that's happened. He makes his wishes as well. One day, he said, "Mummy, I want a car." So I just had to buy a toy car for him. He was all smiles and so happy.
Final thoughts
Pray that the Lord will help us to love and take good care of these little ones and that they will know and love God. Pray also that God will direct us to the right children to be in this program.
